Camera filters and the Camera filters kits
If you are relatively new to photography you may not have used or even know what camera filter kits are. If you are thinking of buying some of these to expand your range of photographic equipment you need to know the effects that you are after and to examine the market prices to find the best deal for you.
So what is a camera filter kit? These are camera accessories that can be added to the optical path, usually in the form of a plastic or metal ring which is clipped or screwed into the lens. A filter gives the photographer more control over the images they make, some effects are minor, others very strong. There is a downside to the use of filters in that dirty or scratched filters will reduce the quality of the images you take and can also require longer exposures by reducing the amount of light passing through the optical path.
There are many types of filters offering with clear filters being the most basic, these have no filtering effect on the incoming light and simply protect the lens from scratches.
UV filters block ultraviolet frequencies while allowing most of the visible spectrum through and are used to reduce the haziness ultraviolet light can create. Colour correction filters are used to balance for the effect of lighting that is not balanced for a film stock`s rated colour temperature. The use of digital photography has, however, greatly reduced the need for these filters as colour balancing can be compensated for by software processing.
Polarising filters remove light that is polarized perpendicular to the axis of the filter and are used both in black and white and colour photograpgy to reduce the reflections from surfaces, to help saturate an image by removing reflections and to darken the sky.
